If you like Broadway, you will love this CD. We have seen the play and the music is great. The CD has all the lyrics and words from the play. You will like it.

you get the idea. Do yourself a favor and buy this incredible cast recording and listen to it multiple times. I saw the show last month, and the cast was just as incredible live. It took me a couple of listenings before I was hooked, and I mean hooked. I was first hooked to "Breathe" (thought it sounded like Jason Robert Brown), then 96,000, one of the best showstoppers I've ever heard, then "It Won't be Long Now", then "When You're Home" which is now my favorite thing to sing in the car. This is an absolute must for contemporary Broadway fans. Props as well to the great orchestra and some fantastic brass playing, especially in "The Club." Maybe I'll return to add more about the cultural significance of this musical/cast album but for now I just want to convey how much I love it and how happy it might make you to listen to it. You don't need to know anything about the story or characters to jump right in- the arc is coherent from listening to all of the songs in sequence, but they are also winners just as stand-alone songs. This is a STUNNING soundtrack. This CD has been in my car for 2 months and I've listened happily every single day. The music is lush but not cheesy or overpowering.It's distinctly modern but I can imagine young kids liking the enthusiastic instrumentation, older folks appreciating the themes of family and community, and people in general liking it because the music and lyrics are so rooted in real problems and real people. This is a desert-island album. You're gonna love it. For serious.
"In the Heights" is an excellent sountrack of Latino Rhtyhm with the Broadway Musical Style, something we were missing to hear on Broadway.Even if you haven't seen the musical you will love this Soundtrack because the story is just amazing and it is a reflection of current NY society, there is this a mix between Latino and American culture printed all over the Musical filled with Salsa and Merengue.
